With Much Appreciation
It is really not possible to work out such a project all alone. During the pretty extensive planning work we got some negative responses in concern to our project from time to time, but there was a lot of positive responses too.
Like it happens often in life it is all up to the personal effort of some people, which is to be found everywhere- you just have to search for them.
Due to this reason we like to say special "thanks" to the following people:
- Our "Spätzl" (best friend) Steven, who spent the one or the other (night) shift to fix the different (and there are some) special devices for our Landy.
- Mr. Franz Schacherbauer and Mr. Felix Schmidhuber from carpenter Schmidhuber for the extensive and idealistic work at our sleeping/living room.
- To Franz and Rosi, for the uncomplicated help at the tricky modification of the rooftent.
- Mr. Andreas Hipf from the forwarder Lagermax who was willing to ship our Landy round the world. This was followed by a lot of pages of communication. It is just a pity that our container was delayed for a week at the harbour of Hamburg and left us waiting in New York. What a surprise, we got billed a four digit amount of handling charges from emotrans- the partner of Lagermax in New York. To compensate this, our carnet (toll papers) disappeared shortly and our Landy got imported under personal effects to the states. However... finally we were allowed to disturb the ladies and gents from emotrans to pick up our Landy after the payment in cash.
In L.A. the one way communication continued. . .
Anyway, after the shipment was not under the direct control of Lagermax, which was right after the point of the time the Landy came into the box, there where a lot of points which really did not satisfy us. Just a pity. But, due to that reason we changed our forwarder in L.A. and so we saved a lot of dollars. We were really glad to hear that our shipment was even faster as expected (expected 6 wk sailing). The pickup in Melbourne was much easier too. We just picked our landi at the customs warehouse. All organized by "Freightnet" for a few bucks. No troubles with custom or AQUIS just get in and drive away. The registration got made beforehand by phone, this included the insurance for personal damages too. SO, just perfect this time - no comparison to the hazzles in NewYork !!
It is a pitty but or Landy has to get shipped home some day. So the shipment to Salzburg has to get organized. This time over Lagermax again and their partner Emo Trans. Due to our experience in NY we are not very optimistic in case Emo. But the communication with Emo is real good and the service perfect. Finally we drive our Landi in the box right on time after the short inspection by the custom. Yes it is true, it matters to the people and not to the company- Thanks Gavan Lawlor.
- Mrs. Aigmüller from ÖAMTC Salzburg which supported us with her know-how about worldwide car insurance, traveler insurance and carnet.
- To Karin, from the travel agent Habersatter. She was patient with us when planing the round-the-world trip, and supported with her know-how. What a pity that our booking for the Fiji hotel got lost somewhere and we stood in the desert of Nevada without Fiji Hotel. Finally, after some communication- nothing, and we tried our luck at the direct way. We were really lucky- we got a reservation at the hotel, just in time. And, due to the direct booking we saved quiet a few bucks - even more than we spent for the Disneyland ticket !!
- Mrs. Derdak, a teacher with a big heart, who supported us at the quiet challenging work of planing all the school time table. So we hope that Luke can make the re-entry into the school system easily.
- Our Spätzl Wolfgang, who supports us with everything belonging to the computer and always knows a way to solve the troubles.
- To Joe, who offered his know-how for this great website in record time!
- The friendly employee from the US embassy in Vienna, who replied very quick to all our inquiries.
- To Birka-Granddad who offered his connections for fixing the bike rack and sponsored the TomTom navigation.
- To Dad-Granddad who spent his rare spare time in and under the Landy the one day or another, and to Mr. Peter Grossegger where all this work was made.
- To grandma who might know all the Kasperl stories by heart now. Due to that we got space sometimes to do a lot of extensive work.
And to all the kind people around, who supported us by trusting in us and believing that we are doing the right thing.
Finally we would like to say "thank you" to all the other people too, who have been (or still are) very skeptical about our project (yes, there are some around). Sure, it is hard to understand their point of view, but to think about double-checking the one or other point it was very good anyway ;-)
